The “Ed & Mary” Plates

July 20th, 2010

In all my life I don’t think I’ve ever walked by these plates without giving them a look and a thought.

They came into my possession 15 years ago. Before that, they hung in my Grandma’s back kitchen off the main kitchen.

The room held my grandpa’s rocker, a farm table and some chairs, a box of firewood and a big black cast iron wood stove. The room smelled of smoldering wood chips, hot coffee, and fresh-baked bread.

And those plates, one saying, “Ed” and one saying, “Mary” were there to welcome me into that room for over 45 years.

And that vision of my¬† grandparents, Mary tending the stove, Ed working on a piece of Limburger cheese,¬†looking like they’d live forever. I cherish the plates and my memories of my beloved Grandpa Ed and Grandma Mary.

OMG! I remember when everyone had these in their kitchens. I wonder what happened to the ones at my parents and grandparents? I must ask! Great memories and photo to share, glad you did!
